April Classes 29th, 30 April or 1st May |
I love punches - well tools in general (Hmm - I may have said that previously!) and there are some great punches (new & old) in the Occasions Catalogue.
At class this month we will be using two new punches to create and decorate a gorgeous feminine card - the Scalloped Tag Topper and Petite Petals Punch. This could be a Mothers' Day card or for another event/reason.
Our second class card is a graduation card featuring
a pop-fold that can be used for many styles of cards - not just a graduation cap!
There are just a few remaining places available.

Tip - Changing the size and/or shape of a Framelit's cutout |
Framelits are great for cutting shapes - but sometimes they are not quite the right size or shape for your project. Luckily it is really easy to adjust these with many of the framelit shapes. For last month's class, we made the
card below using the gorgeous Wetlands stamp set and the painter's tape technique. For the sentiment I wanted to layer two of the chalk talk framelits shapes so they were positioned right against the edge of the card with the stamped sentiment and embellishment on these. To achieve the look I wanted, I used the framelits labelled 1 and 2 below. If I had used the cutouts as they standardly cut, the bottom layer would not have been long enough to be the matting behind the sentiment
and would have ben shaped at both ends. I also wanted the extra width that framelit 1 has to make a mat that matched the curve of framelit 2 as well as framing the entire shape. So I needed to extended the length of the cutout made by framelit 1. To do this, I cut my crumb cake card-stock to the same width as framelit 1, and slightly longer than I required. When placing on the Big Shot's magnetic plate I "threaded" the card-stock through the framelit so that it
would only cut on end. This is shown in the photo below. The cutout shape is the mat, or bottom layer, of the sentiment and was trimmed to match the very vanilla cardstock and allow room to place the button embellishment.
The sentiment was stamped onto a piece of very vanilla cardstock and cut out using framelit 2. The cutout was then trimmed to the correct size so it could be positioned as desired on the card. This describes just one example of changing the cutouts produced from framelits. There are
many! For another application of extending the shape cut out from a framelit, check out this quick video (just under 3 minutes) from Robyn Feitch about extending a flip card. For those who were at class in December this is the technique we used for one of our Christmas cards and also used for Beth's 21st invitations and card. Really useful for getting more space to write on. p.s. Look at how cute the Dress Up framelit shape is inside Robyn's card.
